Jun 9. Visby, Sweden

 Jun 9.  Visby, Sweden

Visby is located in the Baltic Sea on the Island of Gotland off the mainland of Sweden.  Because of the cautions about walking - distances and cobblestones - Dorothy chose to forego this excursion.   Intrepid Mary went on her own to capture her usual great photos while I stayed on the ship to catch up on the blog and relax for the day.

Venturing down to the Plaza Deck I got to the International Cafe just in time to pick up an Almond Croissant and a Decaf before they switched to the lunch items.  Then I had a ringside seat to watch Ring Toss followed by Ladder Ball competitions!! Excitement or what! 😂

This is a description of the tour I did not take!

Explore the medieval, walled town of Visby, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on an informative four-hour adventure that includes scenic driving as well as a visit to the local history museum. Visby is an outstanding example of a northern European walled Hanseatic town. Board your motorcoach and enjoy a quick drive to the old Hanseatic harbor at Almedalen. Here, you'll embark on a walking tour through its narrow, cobbled streets to view its highlights. You'll arrive at the historical Gotland Museum, where 8,000 years of the region's rich history is displayed in interactive galleries. Continue on a panoramic drive through the countryside southeast of Visby. Along the way, you'll stop to photograph one of the rural medieval churches. Continue through the countryside to the fishing village of Gnisvärd to see the unusual boat shaped graves, which dates from the Bronze Age. Return to port at the conclusion of this fascinating day.

After Mary got back we had a quick bite of lunch and returned to our ‘quarters’ for the afternoon.  I am not that hungry tonight after a morning treat and a bowl of soup for lunch!  However, who can turn down a great dinner?  After all, we wouldn’t want to insult the chef!

🇮🇹 Italian Night! 🇮🇹. Mangia! Mangia!  I had my phone to take photos and after the soup, I kept forgetting until that course was finished!!! DUH!  Anyway, Minestrone Soup and Insalata Misto ( Italian salad) to start.  Mary had Red Snapper and Dorothy had Veal Marsala.  The Head Waiter prepared a sample of Penne Arabiata served on the side as a little extra!  For dessert Mary went Italian with Tiramisu, and Dorothy chose Lemon Meringue Cheescake!  Tonight’s wine was a Malbec from France.

YUM!

The entertainer was ‘Magical Bones’ - Richard Essien who performs those sleight of hand tricks I can never figure out!😂  To my taste, this is much more enjoyable than most of the shows we’ve seen so far!

This was an enjoyable day for both of us! And a sea day tomorrow!

Stay tuned!

The Happy Travellers

  2. You know what they say - ‘a bad day on a ship is better than a good day at home’!
