Jun 15 Edinburgh, Scotland

 Jun 15  Edinburgh, Scotland

Back to my roots! In 2022 we had planned a day long tour with a guide to find my family roots.  Sadly, that was the day we tested positive for COVID and had to abandon the tour.  We were fortunate that the guide went on the tour herself and took photos and videos and made commentary which she shared with us on our return home.

This time I will toast my family ancestors in a quiet little spot onboard!  I decided I am unable to manage the hilly, rough walk to Edinburgh Castle but Mary will no doubt take lots of photos on her tour.

Here is the ship’s description of the tour…

Celebrate enchanting Edinburgh on a narrated drive highlighting its principal attractions. Board your motorcoach for a scenic drive to Edinburgh. Alive with culture and history, the capital of Scotland is a thriving UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your guide takes you through the New Town area, where elegant Georgian buildings and contemporary design abounds. Princes Street, Edinburgh's main shopping district, bustles with activity. You'll visit Old Town, where a plethora of historic sites and monuments line the famed Royal Mile, Edinburgh's oldest and most historical street. Follow this world-famous route from the magnificent Holyrood Palace all the way to Edinburgh Castle. Here, you'll encounter an uphill walk from the coach park to the castle entrance, over cobbled surfaces which are uneven in places. Enter the superb fortress complex and allow your guide to orient you to all that can be seen on the grounds. You will explore the interior rooms and the grounds independently. Then, return to your motorcoach for a scenic drive back to the ship or remain in Edinburgh to sightsee and return to the ship on your own.

When Mary returned from her tour we had a bite of lunch and then went down to the Piazza in search of Gelato!!!!  BIG disappointment!  No pistachio today!  😢. So I had to settle for Amaretto!  Mary had Black Forest Cake with her coffee!

We stayed in the Piazza to watch the golf chipping contest!  6 brave souls got up in front of those gathered to see who could accumulate the most points!  Exciting?  Not really, but fun!

Dinner tonight was up to our standards!  LOL  Mary had Sunday Roast and Dorothy had Garlic Prawns.  for dessert a chocolate extravaganza for you know who, and cheesecake for me!

The show tonight promises to be entertaining. Twin’s Trip is an identical twin duo performing circus acts!  Hopefully they will provide some laughs!

Sea day tomorrow!

  1. Ohhh too bad that you couldn’t do the excursion but wise decision not to chance it. And Mary’s photos of the day are wonderful.

  2. When Mary returned she confirmed that it would have been way too much for me! So - wise decision!
